| Your Top Five Questions About Spa Schools |
| by Robyn Tellefsen |
Are you ready for spa school ? Before you go, here are your top five questions answered.
1. What are the admissions requirements?
To get into most Spa Schools, you'll need to be at least 17 years old, with a high school diploma or GED under your belt. If you do not meet this education requirement, you may be required to pass an Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) test. ATB tests approved by the U.S. Department of Education include the ASSET, CPAT, COMPASS, CELSA, CPTs, DTLS, WBST, and WorkKeys tests. Depending on your state's regulations, you may be qualified to receive financial aid once you pass an ATB test.
2. Which spa school should I choose?
That depends on you. Everyone is different, so the spa school your friend goes to may not be the best fit for you. Take some time to research schools in your area or online. Important items to consider include accreditation status that's been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, high graduation and job placement rate, numerous internship opportunities, low teacher-student ratio, up-to-date equipment, etc. Ultimately, the best spa school for you will provide the opportunity to gain plenty of real-world experience before you graduate. Hands-on experience in the spa industry is invaluable once you're ready to get a job.
3. Is spa school the right place for me?
Do you love to help others look and feel their best? A spa education will equip you with a professional skill set that can help you make a difference in the lives of your clients. Whether you're passionate about Massage therapy, esthetics, personal training, or any other area of wellness, spa schools are the perfect place to pursue that passion and learn what it takes to create a successful career in the spa industry.
4. How can spa schools help me get a job?
If your spa school is worth its salt, it will include an internship component that allows you to get your foot in the door of local spas. Your school's career placement department can also help you find the right fit for your talents. With their expert assistance, you can craft a resume and land interviews that'll get you started on the path to your dream job in the spa industry.
5. What kind of future can I expect with a spa education?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of massage therapists is expected to increase 20 percent through the year 2016. And employment of fitness workers such as personal trainers and yoga instructors is expected to increase a whopping 27 percent. The world is recognizing the need for wellness, so there's no time like the present to reap the benefits of a spa education.
