Trager Approach Studies - Trager Approach Programs
by CB Staff
Rather than consisting of a set practice of movements and techniques,

Trager

actually refers to the way in which one should approach the treatment of clients. Thus, Trager is often referred to as the Trager Approach. During a Trager session, the client lies down on a bed and allows him/herself to be manipulated by a Trager practitioner in such a way that the result is an improved sense of wellness -- both mentally and physically.

What You'll Learn
Students in Trager programs learn how to enter a state of mind known as the "Hook up" from which they will begin a session of touch and movement that will result in both mental and physical improvement.

Degree Types
Although, the Trager Approach is not officially recognized by the medical community, a student may obtain certification through the United States Trager Association's six-month long certification program. The United States Trager Association is a member of Trager International, which itself has received approval from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a Category A continuing education provider. A Trager practitioner is required to refresh and expand their knowledge through continuing education courses (CEUs) even after they have been certified.

Career Paths
Certified students may choose to become Trager practitioners; although the profession is not officially recognized by the mainstream medical community it is an accepted form of holistic and Alternative Medicine. Licensed massage therapists may also enroll in Trager programs in order to further develop their techniques. Members of the public, meanwhile, may choose to learn Trager in order to apply the teachings to themselves and/or loved ones without embarking on careers.

Job Outlook
As more people turn to holistic and alternative medicines, it can be expected that the demand for Trager practitioners and/or the Trager Approach will also rise.

Licensing and Accreditation Information
There are no formal licensing requirements for practicing the Trager Approach, however, in order to practice massage legally in the U.S., most states require you to pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB).
