Life coaching

may be defined as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The client brings the agenda and the life coach brings the coaching skills, utilizing reporting, exploring, and a consistent commitment in order to move the client forward. Life coaching accelerates progress by providing clients with greater focus and awareness of choice. Life coaches tend to specialize in specific areas, such as career, confidence and self-esteem, drugs and alcohol, money and finance, relationships, weight loss and fitness, and more. Life coaching may be conducted through a number of mediums, with groups or individuals, in person, over the phone, or via e-mail.

Licensing and Accreditation Information
There is no federal or state agency that accredits life coaching programs, and there is no national licensure requirement at this time. However, the International Coach Federation (http://www.coachfederation.org), an organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession, accredits coach training programs and awards internationally recognized independent life coach credentials.
