Feng shui is the practice of arranging objects and elements in order to facilitate the flow of spiritual energy in an area, while also creating a harmonious existence between the occupant and his/her surroundings. Through acts as simple as rearranging furniture, selecting new wall colors, and adding light, fountains, or candles, a feng shui expert can increase and change the quality and the direction of a client's life. Based upon centuries of Chinese learning and thinking, feng shui serves as a spiritual aide and psychological counselor for practitioners.
What You'll Learn
By studying feng shui, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese systems of thought while learning how to correctly balance the modern world with ancient knowledge. From the importance of architecture and design (open spaces and simple lines), to the affects of elemental properties (such as wood furniture and light), an education in feng shui will grant you a unique perspective from which to approach design inside -- and outside -- the home.
Degree Types
Most feng shui courses will lead to a certificate in the field. Various schools will offer additional certification levels that certify the recipient as a "master" of feng shui.
Career Paths
After receiving their feng shui certification, graduates may gain employment as feng shui consultants (also called feng shui experts and feng shui analysts) or integrate their new knowledge into careers in interior design, landscaping, or architecture. Some feng shui experts may choose to begin their own feng shui consulting businesses.

Feng shui is always a welcome addition to careers in the interior design and architecture industries. Feng shui experts who wish to act primarily as consultants, will find more business in urban areas such as New York City and Los Angeles. The Chinese practice also enjoys popularity with celebs and corporate America. In the past, big names, such as Donald Trump and Disney, have conferred with feng shui analysts during the design and construction of their facilities.
Licensing and Accreditation Information
There are currently no licensing or accrediting bodies associated with feng shui in the United States. In order to gain recognition in the field, it is recommended that you receive certification from a respected school and continue to expand your knowledge of feng shui after graduation.
